Ali Al Omari awarded Trimble Karahipi Hangarau/Technology Scholarship
A beacon of inspiration
Ali Al Omari is a beacon of inspiration and gratitude as he shares his aspirations and deep appreciation for the transformative impact the Trimble Karahipi Hangarau/Technology Scholarship has had on him. Hailing from a family where he is the first to pursue his Master’s Degree in Architecture at the Victoria University of Wellington, Ali emphasises the significance of the scholarship in turning his dream into a reality by alleviating the financial burden of his tuition.
“The Trimble Karahipi Hangarau / Technology Scholarship means so much to me. Being the first in my family to pursue a master’s degree, this scholarship has helped me turn a dream into a reality. It has alleviated the financial burden of my final year’s tuition, allowing me to rejoin my course in person and focus more on my coursework,” Ali says.
Looking towards the future, Ali envisions himself as a registered architect with a compelling vision to contribute to the rebuilding and development of wartorn or developing countries, particularly his home countries, Palestine and the Philippines. His commitment to positively impact his communities is deeply personal, reflecting his dedication to effecting meaningful change through his profession.
With a passion for computational design, Ali shares, “I am intrigued by the potential of computational design and want to explore this field. It’s becoming more integrated into architecture and other industries. I believe that this could be prominent in achieving my goals in the future by offering innovative solutions to current issues.”
Ali shares his desire to intern at Trimble’s Wellington office as a Computational Design Intern, reflecting his enthusiasm for delving deeper into his field of study. His openness to exploring opportunities abroad, whether in the Middle East, Europe, or the United States, showcases his eagerness to contribute to projects on a larger scale.
Ali’s passion for transforming communities through good-quality infrastructure shines. He shares “Another reason I studied architecture is because I believe that quality infrastructure is essential for the well-being and growth of any community. As a Palestinian and Filipino, I recognise the challenges posed by inadequate infrastructure in both countries. My greatest endeavour is to contribute to rebuilding and developing the infrastructure, ultimately restoring and improving current living conditions for future generations.”
Furthermore, Ali’s excitement for the evolving implementation of technological advancements in architecture, particularly in computational design and AI, underscores his enthusiasm for being part of an industry that continually embraces innovation to create sustainable and impactful spaces.
Growing up in Saudi Arabia and moving to pursue his academic endeavours in New Zealand has been marked by challenges and inspiring moments of transformation. Ali’s journey as a fourth-year architecture student, currently pursuing his first-year master’s degree, has been a testament to his resilience and dedication, and he credits his faith with helping him get through these obstacles.
As Ali embarks on the next phase in his academic and professional journey, his story stands as an inspiration to aspiring scholars and architects. The Trimble Karahipi Hangarau/Technology Scholarship has not only empowered Ali to pursue his academic and professional aspirations but has also ignited a sense of purpose and commitment to effecting positive change through architecture. His journey, marked by passion and resilience, serves as a testament to the transformative power of educational support.
